Mr. Newsome. Director of Development, has a 25+ year career in commercial real estate. Over that time period, he has had an extensive track record in development and investment in health care facilities.
Mr. Newsome has developed over 40 health care projects over the last 15 years. Included in this group are build-to-suits, leasing and development activities for companies including Community Health Systems, HMA, Duke University Medical Center, HealthTrust, American Oncology Resources, Cardinal Health Care, Centeon Bio Services and numerous not-for-profit hospitals. He played a lead role in the development of Independence Park, one of the preeminent health care parks in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina.
Mr. Newsome has also developed a significant number of non-health care projects during his commercial real estate career. The other real estate categories he has developed — multi-family and office – have been largely characterized by institutional relationships with universities and insurance companies, respectively.
In addition to being principal in MedDevelopment, Mr. Newsome is the founding principal of Southwind Capital, a real estate development and investment company based in Lawrence, KS. Southwind has developed and invested in nearly 4,000 apartment units since the mid 1990s. Prior to founding Southwind, Mr. Newsome was director of development and finance for Hock Development Corp., a regional firm based in Durham, NC.
Prior to starting his development career, Mr. Newsome managed a commercial real estate lending division for Wachovia’s (First Union) North Carolina bank. He started his career in corporate banking at InterFirst Bank Dallas.
Mr. Newsome is responsible for coordination of development services, including site selection and analysis, zoning and entitlement issues, architectural and engineering services and construction scheduling. Mr. Newsome holds both B.S. and MBA degrees from the University of Kansas.
